One green trash cart and one blue recycling cart are typically left at the home for the new resident by the previous resident. However, if a cart is missing when you move in, contact Garland Sanitation at 972-205-3500 to arrange for a replacement.

Your trash, recycling and brush and bulky goods are picked up on the same day. Trash and brush and bulky goods are collected weekly. Recyclables are collected every other week based on a blue/yellow map of the City.

The City of Garland allows authorized waste haulers to operate with Garland City limits. All businesses in Garland should verify that their waste hauler has an active franchise agreement in place to operate with City limits. Please review the list of approved haulers prior to beginning service with any waste company.
Please note that all commercial and residential customers are required to establish a City of Garland utility account to receive City of Garland commercial waste service. All services will be billed on a monthly basis and a 12-month service agreement must be signed to establish service. Charges for services will appear on the City of Garland utilities statement Indicated as “Sanitation.”
Garland Sanitation provides weekly trash and brush and bulky goods collection and bi-weekly recycling collection. Please follow the rules outlined below to ensure your waste is collected.

Carts should be placed at the collection point no earlier than 6 p.m. on the day before the scheduled collection and no later than 7 a.m. on collection day. Residents should move the cart inside the garage, to the side of the house or to another location out of public view no later than 11 p.m. on the collection day. If your collection point is in the alley, it is not necessary to move the container after pickup unless your property abuts a street from which the container will be visible.
Brush may be placed out any day within a week of collection. All other bulky waste items may only be placed at curbside on the day before collection. Garland Sanitation personnel and vehicles will not go into your yard. Please place brush and bulky goods between the sidewalk and curb in your front yard for pick-up. Please box and label items such as broken glass and sheetrock. Boxes should weigh no more than 40 pounds.
Residents can have up to two additional trash containers for a total of three containers. There is a $7.10 charge per month for each additional container to cover service costs.
If you are moving and have more than one trash container, please call 972-205-3500 to have the extra container(s) picked-up and billing records updated.
Garland Sanitation uses paper tags to communicate collection problems. The tag will explain the issue we experienced servicing your trash, recycling, or brush and bulky goods. Call 972-205-3500 for more information.

Garland Sanitation collects brush and bulky goods every week.
Please separate brush from other bulky waste and keep branches between 4 - 7 feet in length. Leaves and other small lawn and tree debris should be bagged.
Do not place brush or other bulky goods under power lines or tree branches. Leave at least 4 feet of space around all brush and bulky goods.
Sanitation personnel and vehicles will not go into your yard. All brush should be placed between the sidewalk and curb in your front yard for pick-up.
Individual items weighing more than 40 pounds will not be collected. Please note that wet materials (following a rain event) may become too heavy for collection and will be left behind to dry out.
No. We will not pick up bags of household trash with the bulky waste. Drop off the extra bags of trash at the Transfer Station or Landfill.
You can also request up to two additional trash carts for a nominal monthly fee.
Construction debris pickup is for residents who have performed remodeling work on their own property only and can be set out for collection only four times per year during each calendar year. Material must be bagged, bundled, or stacked. An open-top dumpster may be rented for a fee for large projects.
Please note we do not pick up shingles with curbside bulky waste collection. Shingles should be taken to the C.M. Hinton Landfill. Contact us at 972-205-3500 ext. 2 if you need to rent a dumpster.
