The Garland Police Department is working to keep our city free from celebratory gunshots and illegal fireworks. This holiday season, we will have additional officers working to keep our city safe.
The use or possession of fireworks in Garland is prohibited and punishable with a fine of up to $500. Anyone caught firing a gun can be charged with a misdemeanor, pay a fine of up to $4,000 and spend up to one year in jail. If the bullet fired injures someone, the charge is a felony, punishable by jail.
In addition to extra patrols, we are making available 500 yard signs highlighting these penalties in English and Spanish. These signs are a reminder that firing a gun or using fireworks within the City of Garland will not be tolerated.
Garland residents can acquire a sign (one per household) by request at the front desk of the Garland Police Department, 1891 Forest Lane. The signs are available for pick up from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day, excluding Dec. 25-26.
We are looking forward to a safe holiday season!
Please celebrate responsibly and be a good neighbor.
