Garland’s Downtown Dine Around has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 President’s Awards Program, sponsored by the Texas Downtown Association (TDA), and received its People’s Choice Award.
The Downtown Dine Around was chosen as a finalist for the Best Promotional Event in the Achievement Category. Communities from across Texas submitted 119 entries in 11 different categories. Winners will be announced Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Awards Gala held in conjunction with the 2019 Texas Downtown Conference in Georgetown, Texas.
The Downtown Dine Around also won the TDA People’s Choice Award. Unlike the President’s Awards winners, the people are responsible for selecting these winners and there are no divisions by population. The Downtown Dine Around received the most votes on Facebook. Thank you to all who voted!
In an effort to boost attention toward the culinary experience and night life that awaits the Dallas-Metro foodie, the City of Garland coordinated the Downtown Dine Around, during which six regional food bloggers were invited to take a two-hour sampling tour of what five Garland restaurants have to offer. This event, coordinated in conjunction with Tucker & Associates Public Relations, reached more than 23,000 people on social media, creating an energy and buzz around the dining experience Downtown. For more than 30 years, the President’s Awards Program has recognized outstanding projects, places and people of Texas downtowns. The TDA was established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality. The organization is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents cities and towns of all sizes, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, local associations, small businesses and individuals.
