National Community Development Week
The City of Garland celebrated National Community Development Week and the 41st anniversary of the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and 24th anniversary of the Home Partnership Program (HOME) during the week of April 6th through April 11th, 2015. An official City Proclamation, a generous donation by an important corporate citizen and a City employee volunteer campaign marked Garland’s commitment to this important week.
On April 7, 2015 at the regular City Council Meeting, Mayor Douglas Athas and Garland City Council issued a proclamation supporting the Community Development Block Grant Programs and HOME Investment Partnership Programs by recognizing National Community Development Week. This week long celebration brought together citizens, government officials, businesses, media, and non-profits organizations through various events to showcase the impact of CDBG and HOME on our community. National Community Development Week also served as a venue for educating the public about the programs.
Garland provided over 65 employees who volunteered their time to successfully carry out two major events celebrating the week.
