Residents take pride in Garland’s hometown character. The City seeks to meet the diverse needs and preferences of residents by providing a variety of housing and neighborhood programs, services, and resources for area residents to improve the physical conditions of their neighborhood.

Housing Programs & Community Services

Housing and Neighborhood Services offers numerous programs designed to assist homeowners with home repair. These include:

• Emergency repair grants
• First-time homebuyer assistance
• Low-cost home repair loans
• Sidewalk/curb repair, drainage problems, alley paving programs
• Volunteer community paint-up projects

Neighborhood Vitality Grant

Neighborhood projects provide an excellent opportunity to promote a strong sense of community among residents. Projects are a conduit to increase social capital as well as:

• Promote the goals of a neighborhood association
• Incrementally achieve the shared vision for the neighborhood
• Improve neighborhood image
• Achieve goals important to area residents
• Meet and develop relationships with neighbors
