Patients are billed transportation charges if they are transported to the emergency department of an area hospital. The City of Garland has established three transport fees for Garland residents and three fees for non-residents. The three tiers coincide with with Medicare's fee schedules.
BLS is a Basic Life Support transport. This type of transport means that the patient required no advanced medical procedures, such as an IV.
ALS1 means that a patient required at least one Advanced Life Support procedure such as an IV or administration of a medication.
ALS2 means that the patient required three or more Advanced Life Support procedures.

In addition, any drugs used by the paramedics will be charged at a rate of 125% of the City's cost. Mileage is charged at a rate of $10.00/mile from point of pick-up to the emergency room.
